Good morning Around 7:15 a.m. this morning, we lost one phase of Power at Kenna Elementary School. We are waiting for AEP to give us a restoration time on the power. Parents and guardians will be immediately notified once we hear a restoration time from AEP. We will begin dismissal procedures if electricity cannot be restored in a reasonable amount of time. Please be patient as we wait for AEP to contact us. Thank you.

Good afternoon. This is Will Hosaflook, Superintendent of Jackson County Schools. On Tuesday, December 19, our internet service provider WVNET will be completing network maintenance on their server systems. It is very likely all governmental agencies and schools in West Virginia will not have internet access. However, all school phone systems should work if you need to contact the school. School personnel are aware of the internet outage and have adjusted their plans accordingly. Tuesday will be our last full day of school before Christmas break, while on Wednesday, December 20, students will be dismissed 3 hours early. Please have a wonderful Holiday Season.

Good evening. This is Will Hosaflook, Superintendent of Jackson County Schools. Wednesday brings much anticipation with the start of a new school year. I am so excited to see our students and employees back in our buildings as we continue to work together to become the #1 school district in our state. We begin this school by sharing wonderful news – Jackson County Schools is now the 5th-ranked school district in WV in ELA and Math proficiency, moving up five spots from last year. We are so fortunate to have a fantastic community of parents and guardians that understand the importance of a first-class education and are willing to go above and beyond to ensure the success of our students and schools. As I just mentioned, our goal is to be # 1. Leading the state will not come easy. It will take hard work, determination, and perseverance from our children and the entire community to demand high expectations and excellence in our schools. I believe in the power of public education, as well as our parents, our employees, and especially our communities. Anything is possible; we must be willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish our goal. As always, I ask for your patience on the first day of school. There are many moving parts that we will continually perfect throughout the year. Once again, thank you for your support and encouragement as we start another exciting school year. Congratulations on your work being a Top 5 school district in the state of WV. Thank you and have a wonderful evening.

Today, our school launched our One Book One School Program. As a school we will be reading the book: I Survived the Blizzard of 1888. Your child should have brought home a copy of the book, a parent letter and the schedule of chapters to read each day. We are asking that you join us in this adventure, by reading the short chapter each evening with your child and talking about the book as a family. Each day there will be a trivia question based on the previous night’s reading. Students with the correct answer will be entered to win a daily prize. Additionally, we will be doing several school-wide activities to go with the book so be sure to ask your child to tell you about them!
