Good morning,
After receiving updates from our drivers regarding morning road conditions, Jackson County Schools will continue to operate on a two-hour delay for Tuesday, December 9. Ninety-five percent of our bus routes are not affected.
However, if a bus cannot run your child's route, and you believe road conditions are still unsafe to meet the bus at a designated area, please send a note with your child to school the next day.
Also, please continue to monitor the Zonar App for bus updates.

Thank you, and have a great day.

Good evening,

Jackson County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

This decision is due to varying road conditions across the county. The southern region received significantly more snowfall than the north. Additionally, overnight temperatures are forecasted to drop to approximately 20 degrees, which is expected to create freezing and hazardous road conditions, particularly in our rural areas.

Please anticipate a final communication from Jackson County Schools regarding any further updates before 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Thank you, and have a safe evening.

Good morning. This is Will Hosaflook, Superintendent of Jackson County Schools. I would like to provide an update on the current road conditions affecting our county. Road conditions throughout the county are continuing to improve by the minute. The majority of the roads that were most impacted are located south of Ripley. According to our latest briefing from the National Weather Service, the snowfall is expected to stop around noon today.
This timeline should allow sufficient time for roadways to be treated for a regular school dismissal.
At this time, we do not anticipate any impact on our bus routes. However, should any routes become impacted, you will be promptly notified by the transportation office or the bus operator before the evening bus runs begin.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call our Transportation Office directly at 304-373-1020.

Good evening,
Tomorrow, Jackson County Schools will join districts across the state in celebrating West Virginia School Service Personnel Day. This annual observance, recognized by the Governor's proclamation, honors the essential contributions of all service personnel staff who work tirelessly to support students and maintain the day-to-day operations of schools.
West Virginia School Service Personnel Day is an opportunity to recognize the individuals who are instrumental to the success of our students and the smooth functioning of our schools. These dedicated professionals include bus drivers, cooks, custodians, maintenance workers, aides, secretaries, and more.

Our school service personnel are a critical component of our school system. They ensure our students have a safe, clean, and welcoming environment to learn in, and they provide the support that allows our teachers to focus on instruction. Their hard work and dedication often go unnoticed, but they're absolutely vital to everything we do.
Jackson County Schools encourages all students, parents, and community members to take a moment to thank these staff members for their unwavering commitment. Whether it's a simple thank you note, a kind word, or a gesture of appreciation, every effort helps show our gratitude for their critical role in our educational community.

Good evening. This is an important update regarding enhanced safety measures at our secondary schools.
Starting tomorrow, the Shield Coordinator, in conjunction with sheriff deputies, will be implementing a weapons detection system in our secondary schools. As part of this new security protocol, students may be asked to walk through the detection system before entering the school buildings.
This system is mobile and will also be deployed at various events throughout the county to further strengthen our existing safety practices.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to prioritize the well-being of our students and staff. Thank you, and have a wonderful evening.

Good evening, this is Will Hosaflook, Superintendent of Jackson County Schools. I'm excited to welcome you on Tuesday, August 19th, to a new school year filled with promise and anticipation.

It's important to take a moment to celebrate our recent accomplishments. Jackson County Schools continue to be a leader in academics across the state. Last year, our fifth-grade students—now sixth graders—ranked number one in West Virginia for English and Math on the General Summative Assessment. Fairplain Elementary is now a top 10 elementary school in the state, and seven of our eleven schools achieved their highest academic marks ever in English or Math. This is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the hard work of our students, staff, and community.

We are truly blessed to have such dedicated employees, supportive communities, and remarkable students. I firmly believe in the power of public education to provide hope and more opportunities for our students than any other form of schooling. We accept the high standards we're held to every day, knowing that our commitment to accountability sets us apart from other options. Thank you, parents, school employees, and community members, for making Jackson County a great place to learn and grow.

This year, your child's opening day packet will include a letter explaining new legislative laws as well as hard-copy forms you need to return to school. Digital forms are available on our website. As always, I appreciate your patience on the first day of school as we work to make everything run smoothly. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement as we begin another exciting year.
Have a wonderful evening.
