Good evening. On April 8, 2024, Jackson County will experience a Solar Eclipse with a magnitude of 94.7%. The peak of the eclipse will be around 3:13 p.m., coinciding with dismissal times for many of our schools. Jackson County Schools has taken a proactive approach to this occurrence by purchasing special glasses for our students so they can experience this spectacular event, which will not occur again until 2044. Last week, guardians should have received a letter from our school system explaining the procedures we have in place for the eclipse as safety is always our top concern. Jackson County Schools is accepting nominations for the 2025 Teacher of the Year. Nominations can be electronically submitted by students, teachers, administrators, or the general public, from Monday March 11, 2024, until Friday, March 22, 2024, at 4 pm. The nominated teacher should be an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled teacher in any public school in Jackson County, West Virginia, who is planning to teach for the 2024-2025 school year. So proud of our Jackson County Schools students for participating in the Regional Social Studies Fair today in Parkersburg. We have 16 projects advancing to the WV State Championship on April 10th. In our 8-county region (Roane, Wirt, Wood, Ritchie, Tyler, Calhoun, Pleasants), our students had the most projects and 1st place finishers. A big thank you to all students, parents, teachers, school social studies fair coordinators, and Mrs. Barnette-Miller for propelling Jackson County to the top. Congratulations!!

Jackson County Schools is starting an Elementary Track program beginning fall of 2024. The program is completely voluntary and free for students in grades 3-5. Private transportation will be required to the meets at Ravenswood Grade School and Ripley High School. Also, transportation home after practices will be necessary as practices will be held in the evenings after school. Track meets will be held in late April and early May. Comfort Zone Camp free-of-charge camps that take place in West Virginia. Comfort Zone Camp serves children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, primary caregiver, or friend.

Good evening parents and guardians. This is a friendly reminder that Monday, February 19, 2024, is a Professional Learning Day for school employees. This means that students will not have classes. As with our last PL day in October, we encourage guardians to schedule conferences with teachers. If you would like to schedule a conference with a teacher, please contact them as soon as possible.
