Good evening. This past Thursday, the Jackson County Board of Education passed the creation of an Electrician Technician program for students at Ravenswood High and Ripley High that will be housed at the former Ravenswood Middle School. I encourage all Sophomores and Juniors interested in the newly created program to meet with their high school counselors as soon as possible to learn about the class requirements for the program. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students as we try to meet the needs of our community as new businesses enter our area. If you have any questions regarding this program, I encourage you to contact your son’s or daughter’s high school for more information. Thank you and have a wonderful evening.

Good evening, Jackson County Schools is committed to the safety and education of all our students. Essential to this commitment is open communication with our families and school community about any immediate issues when they arise. For this reason, Jackson County Schools is communicating with Ripley Middle School families late this evening regarding an isolated threat reported on the social media platform - snap chat. All threats to schools or students are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. After receiving the snap chat posts around 3:00 p.m. today, Jackson County Schools began working closely with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department regarding the reported threat and its validity. Late this evening, law enforcement concluded their initial investigation and is taking necessary actions against the threats and the person involved. I want to thank the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department for its quick work and assistance keeping our schools safe and secure.

Good evening, The Jackson County Board of Education is investigating a Title IX Complaint at RiHS that has become the subject of much speculation and discussion in the community. Our Board Policy 2266 follows the strict procedure required by the federal Title IX regulations. Jackson County Schools has assigned the investigation of the complaint to an outside investigator. It is anticipated that the investigation will be completed within the next week. Once the investigation is complete, the parties are required to be given an opportunity to review the report of evidence and submit any additional information to the investigator. Following that timeframe, an investigation report will be issued and submitted to the parties and an impartial decision maker. The parties will have an opportunity to review the investigation report and submit any additional questions to the decision maker, who will render an impartial decision in this matter. The Jackson County Board of Education takes all complaints of harassment seriously and is committed to following the procedures required by federal law. The federal law requires this process to be followed before a board of education is permitted to take disciplinary action against a student or employee for Title IX violations. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we finalize all components of our investigation.
